How to Solve Problem of Multiple Partition Entries in Windows Vista ?

Once the partition is selected and click 'Next' to proceed further, you might face problem with an error. To solve such errors, you might be compelled to remove all the existing partitions and hence data from the hard disk. Thus, you will need a valid data backup to restore or use windows data recovery software to extract the lost data.

As an example, on installing Vista in dual-boot configuration and clicking 'Next' after selecting the target partition on hard drive, the following error message can occur:

“Error: uncaught exception: (failed UI_ASSERT)”

After this error message the installation fails.

Reason of this behavior:

Such errors occur when the hard disk partition table is consisted of multiple partition entries. Partition table is the data structure that describes all the existing hard drive partitions. The above error is generally encountered if the media is corrupt and its partition table contains several entries. In such conditions, all these entries point to a single byte offset location.

Lets solve this issue:

Below are the steps that you need to follow to solve such problems:

*

Backup all the data from the hard drive partitions
*

Since the partition table is consisted of various entries, you need to remove them by deleting them. To do so, you need to use command-line utility called DISKPART
*

Install Windows Vista and restore from backup
*

If no valid backup is available that could restore the required data, use partition recovery software. Also termed as data recovery tools, these are fully-competent applications that can restore all the lost data at safe location. Windows data recovery software provides you graphically rich user interface and hence are quite easy to be implemented.
